Kellie was among the top "American Idols" although she did not win. Kellie Pickler was born 28 June 1986 to Cynthia Morton Pickler and Clyde Raymond Pickler at Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. The mother of the child was just 16 when she became pregnant with her. Pickler's childhood was difficult as her father was addicted to alcohol and drugs, even though her mother had divorced from her at the age of 2. Morton was in charge of Pickler for a period of two years, but Pickler said that things were unsettling. "I remember that my mother with me were in the kitchen, and I said, 'I wish God could have me taken away as I'd prefer to have my body taken away than to live alongside you.' She pulled out a knife and placed it on the counter, then told me, 'Here, do it and then.' It was fourth grade. Naturally, I wouldn't had acted on it yet it's left a lot of emotional scarring," she said. Pickler, who was then at the age of 12 was given her grandparents' custody following the court case. Pickler mentions her grandparents as one of her main influences in life throughout her whole life was a child of the grandparents. The mother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in January of 2002, and her children were in the care of her grandfather. Pickler has graduated from North Stanly high school located in New London (North Carolina).
